What was it that first brought you to academia? Why choose the Arts -The Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences encompass a vast subject array. Each can be studied individually but they also intertwine one with the other. When observing a work of Art no matter what the medium so many senses and background knowledge is brought into our appreciation. Sometimes knowledge of the historical context of when the piece originated help us to gain more from the artwork. A deeper understanding of the artist’s personality and psychological makeup help us to further interpret the message the artist is/was trying to convey. A picture tells a thousand words – this is true but the written word conveys so much to the reader as well. What do you look for as your source of inspiration? Does a walk in a park in autumn give ideas for a sculpture, does the rich vibrant colour of the leaves immediately give you ideas for verse or does the interaction with other walkers help with writers block and give you inspiration for your next character? Your surroundings can help produce subject matter for a multitude of reasons.
